Why Mercury Retrograde is Awesome

Let's not beat around the bush- Mercury retrograde starts today and I'm here to tell you why this is great news. Seriously, I've got a really good feeling about this one. Mercury will appear to move backwards across the sky starting today, Feburary 26th, until March 20th when it will station direct and appear to start moving the "right way" again. It will still backtrack over the part of the sky it was retrograde in until April 9th when it will get out of that groove it's been wearing down and start moving forward with a gusto.

All of this back and forth action is happening in the sign of Pisces. It's no secret that Mercury doesn't do its best work in Pisces. Mercury is the planet of communications, intellectual pursuits, thought processes, and information exchanges. Pisces is the sign of dreams and fantasy, intuition, empathy and spirituality. There's not a lot of cross over here when it comes to vibes. If you want to find some doomsday writings about how awful this Mercury retrograde is going to be, just go browse the internet. Everyone seems to be in agreement that it's gonna be a big pile of awful.

I'm here to give you a different perspective. So if you're ready for some positivity, read on. If you're like, no thanks, I'd rather be in a panic, then this post isn't going to be your thing. I take no offense if you'd rather not look on the bright side. That could be your intuition warning you that this is, indeed, a time to batten down the hatches and hide away from the world until at least the end of March. That could be a good plan for you, I'm not discounting that. But for the rest of us, a different perspective is just one of the things on offer from a Mercury retrograde.

Here are some words that I'm connecting with and using as tokens for this Mercury retrograde- and all Mercury retrogrades:

Reflect
Review
Rewrite
Redo
Reframe

As Mercury traces its way back across familiar territory, we get a chance to go over the same ground where we've already been. This is great news if you have things you need to go over again, which I think we all do, right? We are two months into 2026 and I bet a lot of us have already lost touch with our goals and resolutions that we set in January. It happens so quickly! Life moves fast! Now we get a chance to take a pause and look back on what we've been doing.

I encourage you to use the next month for reflection. Think about what you set out to do this year (or this lifetime) and what you are doing to meet those goals. Are you on the right path? Are you clearly out in the weeds? Review any progress you've made- celebrate it! It's super important to acknowledge any milestones you've reached. Notice where you may have gotten off track and decide to realign your actions with your values going forward. How will you do this? Now is an excellent time to make a revised roadmap or plan for how you'll proceed. Then you'll be all ready to kick some ass come March 20th.

The cool thing about the end of this Mercury retrograde is that it coincides with the Spring Equinox. How awesome is that? The spring equinox is the first day of the astrological year which is naturally a friggin' amazing time to reset and start moving forward again. That's some beautiful symmetry between Mercury and the equinox. Take the time between now and the equinox to rest, to reflect, and the review. Set yourself up for success come Aries season and the beginning of the astrological year.

One of the ways to do this reset is to redo anything that you may have already started and so far have done kind of a sloppy job. No shade, a shitty first draft is way better than no first draft. You have the opportunity and the power to do a rewrite now. I'm using writing as a metaphor here for any project that you've attempted and have not created excellent finished products. Personally, I am editing a writing project that I've been working on for years now and it feels so good to be making progress and rereading these old projects. I am using this time to edit everything I have written so far. That way I will be ready to start writing new content in a month when the energy is right for it.

If you have projects or goals that you were working on, use this Mercury retrograde to evaluate your progress. How is everything looking? Do you need to readjust? Do you need to redo anything? Mercury wants you to look back now and why not use that super power to your advantage? You may find that you have some loose ends to tie up. What have you left hanging or neglected to complete. Now is when you get to backtrack and make sure all your ducks are in a row and your foundations are stable. Give yourself the gift of finishing anything that you've left half done. It's even likely that you have just one little tweak to make or thing to do and that stuff will be complete. Finish it!

You could also reframe a long term project or goal now that you have some time to go over it. Mercury in Pisces is creative and poetic. You may find new language to describe your goals that puts them in a whole new light. For example, I've starting calling my writing project a book, and this reframe has totally changed my attitude about working on it. Now I'm "working on my book" instead of "working on my tarot year card write ups" and that difference in language has helped me immensely. How can you reframe your goals or projects to give yourself  new perspective and new enthusiasm, especially for difficult or long term things? Use the intuitive powers of Pisces to feel out what could could be a more resonate and useful way of looking at it for you.

Ok, I think that is enough about why I think this Mercury retrograde is going to be a good one. Of course, I've already backed up my computer because a Mercury retrograde is always my sign that it's time to do that. It happens three times a year and for me, that is the perfect number of times to back up my computer each year. Maybe not for everyone, but it's better than never, right?!

How will you reframe this Mercury retrograde to fit your lifestyle? Let me know in the comments!
